Confederation of African Canoeing Angola 2025

Executive Committee meeting in Luanda 

The Confederation of African Canoeing’s Board met in Luanda, Angola where they reviewed their activities in 2024 and approved the activity plan and budget for 2025. The Angolan Water Sports Federation President Paula Lima was appointed as the Second Vice President of the CAC and the competition calendar was approved. Notably, it was also decided that the next African Championship and Africa Cup will be hosted in Angola. 

Inauguration ceremony  

CAC Board members, led by President Joao Manuel Da Costa Alegre, attended the inauguration of the new President of the Angolan Water Sports Federation, demonstrating their support and collaboration within the region. 

Visit to Angola 

CAC President Joao Manuel Da Costa Alegre engaged in discussions with key Angolan authorities, including the Minister of Youth and Sports and representatives from the Angolan Olympic Committee, regarding the upcoming African Youth Games, scheduled for December. Canoeing is set to be one of the sports featured in these Games.

Technical visit to Algeria 

The CAC President also made a technical visit to Algeria to prepare for the African School Games, taking place from August 20 to 30, emphasising the confederation's commitment to youth sporting events across the continent. 

Elections and meetings 

During the January-March period, the CAC President was re-elected as President of the Olympic Committee of São Tomé and Príncipe and First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa for the 2025-2029 Olympic cycle. Additionally, he participated in the 144th Session of the International Olympic Committee where a new President was elected in Kirsty Coventry. This event provided an opportunity for networking with influential figures in the Olympic Movement and international sports. Overall, these activities reflect the CAC's proactive approach to promoting canoeing and youth sports in Africa, fostering collaboration with national federations, and engaging with the international sports community.
