Italy enjoyed plenty of success at the International Canoe Federation Stand Up Paddling Junior International Cup in Bascov, Romania. 

Gianluca Corriero and Lisa Venturelli both came away with a hat-trick of gold medals after succeeding over the sprint, technical and long distance categories. 

Another highlight was the golden double for Romania’s Matei Barbu who delighted the home fans with two U18 titles. 

The ICF SUP Junior International Cup ran from 19 to 21 June and featured events in the U14, U16 and U18 age groups. 

Netherlands’ Marrit Miedema clinched the women’s U14 sprint crown in a time of 31.54, with Japan’s Kano Yamanaka coming second in 31.90 and Italy’s Giulia Basciano finishing third in 32.58. 

Japan’s Nagi Taguch was the winner of the men’s U14 sprint event, triumphing in 27.91. 

Greece’s Nikolaos Butsadakis bagged silver in 28.34, with Spain’s Noah Diaz earning bronze in 29.47. 

Venturelli’s first gold came in the women’s U16 sprint, winning in 30.33. Spain’s Daniela Cazorla secured silver in 30.63, with Italy’s Preziosa Chiarelli finishing in 30.76 for bronze. 

There was an Italian one-two-three in the men’s U16 sprint final as Corriero came out on top in 25.09. 

Giulio Lazzarini sealed silver in 25.26 with Montanari Leonardo clinching bronze in 25.49. 

Greece’s Erasmia Malekaki struck women’s U18 sprint gold in a time of 30.18.

She was followed by two Italians as Claudia Postiglione came second in 30.24 and Sveva Sabato earned bronze in 32.22. 

There was delight for the hosts when Barbu swept to the men’s U18 sprint title in 22.43. 

Japan’s Tatsuma Nishikawa claimed silver in 24.64, with Greece’s Manos Farsaris sealing bronze in 25.19. 

Basciano came out on top in the women’s U14 technical, triumphing in 4:23.35. 

Miedema claimed silver in 4:27.24, with Yamanaka bagging bronze in 4:34.53. 

Taguchi secured his second title with victory in the men’s U14 technical category. 

Butsadakis clinched silver in 4:16.98 with Netherlands’ Mylo Van Bakel finshing in 4:18.64 for bronze. 

There was another gold for Venturelli in the women’s U16 technical as she crossed the line first in 4:15.04. 

It was a dominant victory as compatriot Chiarelli came second in 4:18.88, while Netherlands’ Marin Hoeboer earned bronze in 4:25.54. 

There was another Italian clean sweep in the men’s U16 technical final with Corriero once again emerging victorious. 

He won in 3:41.82 as Leonardo came second in 3:41.82 and fellow Italian Serse Sabato sealed bronze in 3:53.88. 

Sveva Sabato topped an Italian one-two as she overcame Postiglione to capture the women’s technical U18 crown in 4:14.07. 

Postiglione came second in 4:20.32 and Greece’s Malekaki secured bronze in 4:25.17.

There was a second gold for Barbu courtesy of his victory in the men’s U18 technical final. He triumphed in 3:41.51, beating Netherlands’ Maximus Sijrier who claimed silver in 3:46.58 and Czechia’s Matyas Soukup earned bronze in 3:53.09. 

Corriero completed his hat-trick with success in the men’s U16 long distance final.  

He won in 1:03:30.65, heading another Italian one-two-three as Lazzarini came second in 1:03:36.02 and Leonardo secured bronze in 1:03:40.72. 

Venturelli also wrapped up her golden treble thanks to her triumph in the women’s U16 long distance final.  

She crossed the finish line first in 1:09:36.99, seeing off Miedema who came second in 1:09:39.17, while Italy’s Sara De Stefano bagged bronze in 1:09:41.24. 

There was joy for Japan in the men’s U18 long distance as Nishikawa emerged victorious in 1:00:52.72. 

Germany’s Benyam Bossack crossed in 1:01:05.20 for silver before Sijrier finished in 1:01:27.64 for bronze. 

Sveva Sabato delivered another gold for Italy thanks to her performance to win the women’s U18 long distance crown in 1:11:46.80. 

A time of 1:11:49.67 saw Malekaki earn silver, with Postiglione finishing in 1:11:49.76 for bronze.
