German paddlers enjoyed a dominant outing at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom Ranking Race in Markkleeberg, claiming all the gold medals and the bulk of podium places on home waters.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Ricarda Funk was the standout racer, securing an impressive treble with victories in the women’s canoe, kayak cross and kayak cross individual.
Andrea Herzog prevented a complete sweep for Funk by taking gold in the women’s kayak.
Noah Hegge impressed in the men’s K1 as he captured gold, while Konrad Ginzel continuing Germany’s good form taking victory in the men’s C1.
Home paddler Stefan Hengst took two golds in the men’s kayak cross and kayak cross individual, rounding off a successful run for the German paddlers.
In the men’s K1, Germany’s Hegge set the pace to claim gold in 97.43, finishing ahead of Poland’s Michal Pasiut in 98.80. Hengst won bronze in 99.67 to put another German on the podium.
Funk topped the standings in the women’s K1, stopping the clock at 108.25. Compatriot Emily Apel followed in second in 110.70, as Slovakia’s Sona Stanovska took third in 112.27.
Germany secured a clean sweep in the women’s C1, led by Herzog’s winning run of 113.24. Nele Bayn placed second in 117.01, and Lucie Krech completed the podium in 120.74.

A similar story unfolded in the men’s C1, as Ginzel captured gold in 103.19 ahead of Timo Trummer in 105.12, and Hannes Trummer who took bronze in 105.36.
In the men’s kayak cross, Hengst produced a strong performance to take gold, with Czechia’s Stephan Venc finishing second and Germany’s Tillmann Roeller in third.
Funk added another title in the women’s kayak cross, heading an all-German podium alongside Apel in second and Annkatrin Plochmann in third.
Hengst continued his winning run in the men’s kayak cross individual, once again finishing ahead of Venc, while Roeller secured another bronze.
Funk rounded off her weekend with a third gold won in the women’s kayak cross individual, with Apel and Plochmann completing yet another German clean sweep.
