Cecilia Panato continued her impressive form at the International Canoe Federation Wildwater Canoeing World Cups 1+2 in Dunaremete, Hungary. 

It was a dominant display from Italy’s Panato, who powered her way to a double-gold triumph as Dunaremete made history by staging its first-ever ICF World Cup. 

Panato swept to victory in the women’s canoe and kayak classic finals as she built on her success at last month’s World Championships.

Czechia’s Matous Beier claimed victory in the men’s C1 classic, while Slovenia’s Jon Senk secured gold in the men’s K1 classic.  

In the men’s canoe double, Swiss duo Cornel Bretscher and Jonah Muller stormed to victory, while sisters Emma Christie and Kerry Christie powered to gold in the women’s C2. 

For the sprint events, it was Slovakian success as Jaromir Ivanecky and Katarina Kopunova took gold in the men and women’s C1, respectively.  

Germany’s Luisa Puttkammer and France’s Raphael Bonnard captured gold in the respective women and men’s K1.  

Panato wasted no time in getting back to business, claiming gold in the women’s K1 classic with a winning time of 18:24.64.  

More than 30 seconds behind, Great Britain’s Kerry Christie secured silver in 19:01.53, while Italy’s Elisa Bonafini completed the podium with bronze in 19:23.63.

Beier delivered victory for Czechia in the men’s C1 classic, crossing the line in 19:47.20.  

France’s Charles Ferrion took silver in 20:02.86, while Great Britain’s Andrew Crowhurst claimed bronze in 20:11.75. 

The men’s K1 classic belonged to Slovenia, which swept the podium.  

Senk led the charge, securing gold in 17:36.97, ahead of former world champion Nejc Znidarcic in 17:43.88 and Anze Urankar in 17:46.05.

Panato secured her second gold medal of the day in the women’s C1 classic, winning in 21:23.92. Slovakia’s Kopunova took silver in 21:40.94, while Germany’s Franziska Gawehn earned bronze in 22:13.54. 

Bretscher and Muller powered Switzerland to victory in the men’s C2 classic, finishing in 19:36.94.  

Slovakia’s Michal Dubovicky and Ivanecky took silver in 20:03.22, while Urankar added another medal to his tally alongside compatriot Matija Preskar, claiming bronze. 

There was further success for Kerry Christie, who teamed up with sister Emma Christie to win the women’s C2 title in 21:11.67.  

The British pair held off fellow siblings Clara Gaubert and Elsa Gaubert of France, who secured silver in 21:38.61.  

Slovakia’s Kopunova and Petra Soskova completed the podium with bronze in 21:43.15. 

In the women’s K1 sprint final, Puttkammer stormed to gold in 34.91. France’s Clara Gaubert took silver in 36.27, while Czechia’s Marie Nemcova claimed bronze in 36.50. 

Bonnard captured the men’s K1 sprint title in 30.79.  

France’s Nicolas Niederle-Gomez pushed hard for victory but settled for silver in 30.91, just 0.12 seconds adrift.  

Znidarcic shared bronze with Italy’s Leonardo Pontarollo after both athletes recorded identical times of 31.11.

Kopunova added another gold medal for Slovakia in the women’s C1 sprint, winning in 41.15.  

Nemcova secured silver in 41.62, while Panato collected her third medal of the competition with bronze in 42.44. 

Ivanecky rounded off a successful weekend for Slovakia by taking gold in the men’s C1 sprint in 35.84.  

Ferrion claimed silver in 36.03, while Switzerland’s Muller completed the podium in 36.40, earning his second medal of the weekend.
