Two new classes have been announced for the 2025 Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race (DW), which will also see Paddle UK sponsor the event.
The historic Easter weekend race, which has been taking place since 1948, will see paddlers tackle 125 miles and navigate 77 locks from Devizes, Wiltshire to Westminster in the heart of London, Great Britain.
The events include a non-stop senior doubles class, which is a time trial event. The four stage classes are senior singles and doubles, junior doubles, veteran/junior and endeavour.
In 2025, a senior singles Stand Up Paddling class in the stages race and a relay class for senior doubles will be run on a trial basis.
“I am delighted that Paddle UK will be an official sponsor of the Devizes to Westminster canoe race in 2025,” Paddle UK Chief Executive Ashley Metcalfe said.
“We look forward to developing our relationship further with the DW Organisation to continue to support this iconic event.
“Our best wishes go out to the paddlers competing and our thanks to the volunteers who work so hard to make sure this historic canoe race takes place every year.”
The DW paddlers also contribute to a social cause with an estimated £2 million raised for charity over the years.
The challenging race has had some rule changes over the years, notably with bank-side support crews allowed to supply food and drinks to the competitors.
Competitors are also fitted with a GPS tracker so support crews are aware of their location at any time.
