Poland’s Martyna Klatt and Anna Pulawska managed the comeback of the day to clinch gold at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Cup in Montreal.

The duo spent the majority of the women’s kayak double 500m trying to chase China but ended up making the comeback look effortless.

There was further joy for Luzan as she capped off a successful weekend with gold in the women’s canoe single 200m final.

Serbia and Hungary also saw victory in the double events of the Olympic programme.

For the non-Olympic races, there was a surprise winner in a talent-stacked lineup of the men’s kayak single final.

Spanish and Chinese teams also secured their spot at the top of the podium after impressive runs.

China’s Shimeng Yu and Mengdie Yin left their competitors chasing their tails in the women’s K2 500m.

Despite the rapid start, Poland’s Klatt and Pulawska showed their determination and clinched gold in 1:38.25.

It was a morale-boosting victory for the Polish duo ahead of a home World Championships in Poznan next month.

"This gold medal is really important for us because it's the last competition before the World Championships,” said Pulawska.

“We're really happy with the result, and now we're looking forward to racing next month.

"It was probably the closest race for us, but we stuck to our tactics, and it worked.

“In the end, we were able to get the win, so we're really happy."

Yu and Yin let the gold slip, but secured silver in 1:38.74.

Italy’s Lucrezia Zironi and Giada Rossetti rounded off the podium in 1:39.05.

Ukraine’s Luzan snatched gold in the women’s C1 200m in a thrilling battle against home hope Sophia Jensen.

In the men’s K2 500M, Serbia’s powerhouse duo of Zarko Jakovljevic and Marko Dragosavljevic came from behind to capture the gold in 1:26.67.

Dragosavljevic shared gold in yesterday’s men’s K1 200m with Italy’s Andrea Di Liberto, making this medal his second of the weekend.

“Yesterday I shared the gold, but today I promised my team that today I will take one more gold, and we took it,” said Dragosavljevic.

Jakovljevic added: “This had been a tough season for us, because this is the first year of Olympic qualification.

“This year we started our journey so we are a new combination for Serbia."

For the non-Olympic events, Germany’s Jacob Schoff came out on top in the men’s K1 500m.

Schoff overcame reigning world champion Josef Dostal of Czechia to win gold in 1:36.43.

“It’s just a nice feeling to know that I’m able to win a gold medal in the K1,” said Schoff.

“It’s always a good thing for the team also. It sets a benchmark for the other athletes.

“You have to stay focused, I managed to do it, and it’s a good position for the world ranking.”
