The International Canoe Federation congratulates its former President, Jose Perurena, on his re-election to the position of president of the International World Games Association until 2026.

Mr Perurena, who has led the IWGA since 2014, receiving an overwhelming majority of 93 per cent, a reflection of the successful growth of the association under his leadership.

Patxi, as he is affectionately known in canoeing circles, was president of the ICF from 2008 until 2021. The Spaniard was also a member of the IOC from 2011, and said he is looking forward to the next three years.

“Since the Games in Wroclaw 2017, the IWGA has been undergoing a transition period,” he said.

“Together with our Executive Committee, our staff and the support of our 39 member federations, we will finish this process with the Games in Chengdu in 2025. My goal has been, is and will be to establish the best possible environment for all of IWGA's integrated sports."

The International Canoe Federation celebrated the inclusion of canoe marathon, which joined canoe polo on The World Games program in Birmingham, Alabama, last year. In Chengdu in 2025 dragon boat will also be on the program at the invitation of the event hosts.
