A training camp for Paracanoe-Marathon paddlers is set to return after a successful first edition in 2024.

Scheduled to be held between April 22 and 26, the French town of Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave will again serve as the host.

A total of 12 French and Spanish athletes participated in the camp last year.

The The International Canoe Federation’s Paracanoe Committee and Canoe Marathon Committee have been working together to develop the sport as this year will finally see Paracanoe make its debut at the Canoe Marathon World Championships.

Having been a test event in the past, the flagship event in Gyor, Hungary, in September will see athletes compete for world titles in the following events — 6.8km for KL1 and VL1; 10.2km for KL2, VL2, KL3, and VL3 and the open class.

This year’s camp in France will include training, technical talks and video sessions, followed by a competition during the weekend.

Jean-Christophe Gonneaud, Desire Dauchez, and David Bernardeau will be among the coaches leading the camp.

First ICF Paracanoe Marathon training camp

Boat shelves, accessible docks, safety training motorboats, a fitness and cardio room, a meeting room with a video projector, accommodation, and a restaurant, are all in the same enclosure and accessible by wheelchair.

The local club will lend kayaks and va'a boats for participants who cannot bring their own, but not all sizes and models are available.

Athletes must pay €210 to take part in the camp.

All interested participants must register their interest by April 5 by email to jc.gonneaud@canoeicf.com.
