Home favourite Isabel Lowry delivered another memorable moment for the Canadian fans on a thrilling final day of the International Canoe Federation Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships.

Cheered on by the Halifax crowd, Lowry successfully defended her women’s junior canoe single 200m title.

But it was Hungary’s day, winning four gold medals across the canoe and kayak double events.

The Canadian crossed the line in 46.68, just 0.10 seconds ahead of Vozniuk in 46.78, with Brazil's Lorrane Souza taking bronze in 47.22.

“It’s a surreal feeling to stand on the podium, and to do it again was even better,” said Lowry.

“It was amazing last year, but to do it in front of a home crowd, I’m just really blessed to be here.

“The last 100 metres was just pure adrenaline; I was really just trying to hold on.

“I had a good start, but the wind picked up and I thought – just keep going.

“I held it together so I’m really happy about that.

“When I saw that I won it was just a feeling of relief, I really thought Vozniuk got me.

“My teammates told me on the sidelines that I won, so it was great to find out that way.”

Hungary's medal haul began in the men's junior canoe double 500m, where Zsolt Peter and David Barna powered to victory in 1:42.82, comfortably ahead of Spain's Alberto Ruiz and Alejandro Perez in 1:45.66.
