China celebrated double gold medals on the final day of canoe slalom competition at the Asian Games in Indonesia.

Shi Chen won gold in the women’s C1, while Xin Quan won gold in the men’s K1. The results followed a golden double for Japan 24 hours earlier.

Chen won gold in the 2017 Asian Slalom Championships in Thailand, after finishing fifth at the 2014 Asian Championships in Incheon.

She posted a time of 110.32, which included four seconds in penalties, to finish ahead of Taipei’s Wei Han-Chen on 111.14 with two seconds in penalties, and Thailand’s Atcharaporn Duanglawa third.

In the men’s K1, Xin Quan finished in 89.39 to edge out Japan’s Kazuya Adachi on 90.26, with Thailand’s Hermann Husslein third.

Both Quan and Husslein had two-second penalties. Quan finished second in the K1 at the 2016 Asian Slalom Championships in Japan.

There were also good results for the ICF’s canoe slalom development program, with Wei Han-Chen and Duanglawa both members of the Talent Identification Program (TIP).

Han-Chen has been very active in coaching roles since her time with TIP, while Duanglawa has been on TIP since 2015.

And Hermann Husslein was a member of the 2012 TIP and competed at the 2012 London Olympics.
