An equal number of female and male athletes including a 55-year-old Spanish paddler and a 12-time world champion from Australia will be part of an exciting Paracanoe programme at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. 

Here is a list of all the notable facts and figures from the Paracanoe competition in Paris. 

100 – Paracanoe athletes will compete for glory in Paris. 

3 – Days of competition with all the races taking place at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium from September 6 to 8 as Paracanoe makes its third successive appearance at the Paralympic Games. 

50 – There will be gender equality for the first time with 50 female and 50 male paddlers taking part. 

10 – Sets of medals will be awarded with titles up for grabs in KL1, KL2, KL3, VL2 and VL3 categories across the men’s and women’s competitions which is the biggest Paracanoe programme at a Paralympic Games. 

6 – Countries will make their Paralympic debut with Algeria, Egypt, South Korea, Senegal, Serbia and Thailand poised to be represented in Paracanoe for the first time on the biggest stage. 

55 – Is the age of Spain’s Araceli Menduina who is the oldest Paracanoe paddler in the field and will compete in the women’s KL3. 

7 – Is the number of medals Great Britain achieved at Tokyo 2020 as they topped the standings with three golds, one silver and three bronzes. 

30 – Nations will be represented across all five continents including 12 from Europe, eight from Asia, five from Pan America, three from Africa and two from Oceania.

9 – Paddlers will compete for Great Britain, meaning they will have the biggest Paracanoe team in Paris which will feature reigning Paralympic champions Charlotte Henshaw, Laura Sugar and Emma Wiggs. 

2 – Flagbearers from the world of canoeing participated in the Opening Ceremony as Yong Beom Choi of South Korea and Edina Mueller of GErmany led out their respective countries at the curtain-raiser for Paris 2024. 

20 – Is the age of Egypt’s Salwa Ahmed who is the youngest Paracanoe paddler in the field and will compete in the women’s KL2. 

4 – Va’a events will be held in Paris with the women’s VL3 making its first appearance, joining the women’s VL2 and the men’s VL2 and men’s VL3. 

12 – Is the number of times Australia’s Curtis McGrath has been crowned world champion as he looks to add to his record three Paralympic golds at the Games. 

200 – Metres is the distance which paddlers will compete in across all 10 events at Paris 2024.
