Two of the biggest names in canoe manufacturing have announced an historic partnership which will start an exciting new chapter in the growth of the sport.

Nelo and Struer are considered world leaders in their respective fields, and have today signed a partnership agreement which will provide enormous benefits to paddlers at all levels and will provide a major boost to the construction of mahogany canoes.

Nelo, celebrating its 40th year in canoeing this year, is widely recognised as an international leader in developing top performance kayaks and canoes, and as an innovator in boat design, services and technology.

Danish company Struer has been in operation since 1947, saw one of its boats win an Olympic gold medal the following year in London, and tasted regular Games success over the next 50 years.

The company founded by cabinetmakers Sv. Helge Kobberup and Gerhard Sorensen is the world’s best-known manufacturer of mahogany kayaks.

"The reason to go into this partnership is mainly because of Nelo's network and expertise,” Struer’s Carl Larsen said.

“Nelo is for obvious reasons the only brand we would partner for such adventure.”

Manuel Ramos from Nelo was also thrilled to be part of the exciting new venture.

"We are extremely excited to open this new chapter with Struer and to have the chance to partner with an iconic brand,” he said.

“It's a great opportunity and honour. The goal is clear: bring back all the memories, mystique and glory of these types of manufacturing boats to all canoes and kayaks lovers.”
