Dragon Boat World Championships

The first Dragon Boat World Championships were held in Kaohsiung, Taipei, in 2006, with events being contested in men's, women's and mixed 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 metres. Switzerland and Germany shared the honours in the men's events, winning two gold medals each, while Hungary dominated the mixed events, winning all four gold on offer.

Germany won three of the gold medals in the women's events, with Switzerland picking up the remaining gold.

The most recent edition of the world championships was held in Moscow, Russia, in 2016. There were 46 events including junior, senior and masters categories. The Russian Federation claimed 32 of the 46 world titles, next was Germany and the Ukraine who each managed four. The next edition of the world championships will take place on Lake Lanier in Gainsville, USA, in 2018. The ICF also hosts a world championships for club crews in alternate years to the world championships.
