Paddle UK is seeking extra funds to help grow its Big Paddle Cleanup campaign to protect the country’s waterways from litter and plastic pollution.
The Big Paddle Cleanup Crowdfunder has been set up with the aim of raising £50,000 towards the initiative.
Since 2022, thousands of paddlers have been provided with pickers, gloves and sacks, to take action on the UK’s waterways.
About 14,000 single-use plastic bottles alone have been taken out of rivers and canals thanks to those amazing volunteers.
Paddle UK is set to continue to fund kits but with extra investment it will look to equip even more people with the tools they need to take action locally.
People are being encouraged make a donation or simply share Paddle UK’s Crowdfunder campaign on their social media channels.

Chantelle Grundy, Paddle UK's Access and Environment Lead, said: “We are always blown away by the efforts of volunteers during the Big Paddle Cleanup.
“There's so much more we can do to help our precious waterways and we know there's so many more people who want to help.
“With more funding we can give community groups, paddlers and other volunteers, the tools they need to improve precious blue spaces.”
Paddle UK is leading the charge against plastic waste through the Big Paddle Cleanup.
The initiative empowers volunteers, community groups, and paddlers to take action and clean up the country’s waterways.
In 2024, 3,699 amazing volunteers collected 1,888 sacks of plastic waste and other junk from our precious waterways.
The Big Paddle Cleanup will return from May 24 to June 8 in 2025.
