The International Canoe Federation is thrilled to announce that this year’s Stand Up Paddling World Championships will see the debut of the new 100m sprint event.
Set to be held from November 19 to 24 in Sarasota, Florida, ICF’s flagship event for SUP will see the 100m replace the usual 200m.
The race will see some of the best athletes in the world come together and battle it out for 25 to 30 seconds compared to almost a minute in the 200m, making it exhilarating for the paddlers and spectators alike.
Athletes will race in lanes, with buoys on both sides and will also have a photo finish system installed to ensure fair judgement.
“This (100m) is truly for sprint paddlers. It is a great platform for paddlers with sprint skills to showcase their talent,” said Noemi Horvath, Chair of the ICF SUP Commission.
“The races are going to be exciting, and we are hoping for some spectacular photo finishes.
“Sarasota is the perfect place to organise the 100m sprint with its flat-water surface and professional equipment, where the true sprint skills can be shown finally.”

The 2024 SUP World Ranking Points is now live, with points set to play a crucial role in seeding in sprint and technical races at the World Championships.
For the first time, World Ranking Points have been awarded for the junior and master categories.
With paddlers from across the globe registering their interest, especially in the junior category, the SUP World Championships in Sarasota is expected to provide fierce competition.
Athletes started collecting points at the 2024 ICF SUP World Ranking Series, which began in Lago delle Nazioni, Italy, in April this year before moving on to Villach and Lake Faak in Austria.
The penultimate one was held from August 9 to 11 in Falkenberg, Sweden and the best in the world in the open, junior and master categories will have one final opportunity to grab points at the ICF World Cup in Agios Nikolaos Crete, Greece, from September 27-29.
