The women’s kayak final saw Jessica Fox of Australia win her first Olympic gold in the event to make it five in total at the Games.

Klaudia Zwolinska of Poland and Kimberley Woods of Great Britain bagged silver and bronze, respectively.

Here are the quotes from all medallists and some of the other competitors

Jessica Fox (Australia)

“I'm just so happy, so proud, I can't believe it. It was the longest wait. I couldn't hold it together. In the end, it was really hard to watch. I'm just really proud to share this moment with Klaudia Zwolinska and Kimberley Woods. I'm just so happy to put down a good run at that moment. My team has helped me get to this moment. I couldn't have done it without them and my family and friends, and the people in the crowd here were amazing.”

“It feels very special with the French connection and to feel that energy from the crowd. Their energy has been electric. Mum chased gold in ‘92 and ’96, so for me to achieve gold in Paris was very special for our family.”

Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi, coach and mother of Jessica

"I failed to bring the gold twice in the two Olympics I competed in (Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996) so I know how hard it is, so for Jess to do it in this stadium is amazing.

"I am so thankful for any colour of the medal. Did you see how beautiful it is with the piece of the Eiffel Tower?"

Kimberley Woods (Great Britain)

“There was a moment on the podium where I looked at it - this is actually a piece of the Eiffel Tower, a piece of history, and that is incredible. No, I just knew I was happy that I'd done a good run, and there was a little mistake in it, but I'm really proud that I went out there and paddled who I wanted to be.

Klaudia Zwolinska (Poland)

“I don't know what to say. I'm so proud of myself and of my runs. Not only in the final, but this whole competition. It was really special for me. I didn’t expect it. It just happened. Every single thing I planned, it just happened. So I'm shocked, I can’t believe it. I don't know what to say. I have no words. And I'm not just saying it because every athlete says it, I honestly don't have words to describe what I am feeling right now.”

Ana Satila (Brazil)

"I want to say I'm happy, but of course it's so hard. I gave my best today, and I'm proud of that, but it's really hard to finish in fourth position. I'm motivated for my canoe single and also the kayak cross.

Camille Prigent (France)

"I'm simultaneously very frustrated and very happy to have lived those Games at home, with the entire crowd backing me. I wish I could've brought them a medal. I'm hungry for more and I still have kayak cross to look forward to."

Ricarda Funk (Germany)

“You know, obviously I took the risk and it was a little bit too much. I didn't feel the 50, so I was a little bit confused at the finish line, but when I saw the video, I agreed. It was tough - tough to be in the fight and lose. But actually, I managed quite well, mentally.”

Evy Liebfarth (United States)

“They had a lot of moves where you had to actually spin, so you had to go backwards through a gate and then catch a wave and surf it to the next gate. And you have to be really, really crazy for those moves. You're basically trying to, like, float backwards.”

Luuka Jones (New Zealand)

“I think I'm disappointed. I gave it all out there, but it didn't come together and (I) lost some crucial time and crucial places. It just wasn't good enough today and it's disappointing. I am curious to look back at the splits because I had a feeling I lost four seconds on a mistake and another four (seconds) on touches, so without these I would have had a really good one.”

Martina Wegman (The Netherlands)

“(I'm a) little bit disappointed, but also I don’t get super disappointed. I’m sad it was close, but I’m looking from the positive side. I am curious to look back at the splits because I had a feeling I lost four seconds on a mistake and another four (seconds) on touches, so without these I would have had a really good one.
