A new canoeing venue in Kazakhstan will be the host of a seminar for Canoe Sprint continental technical officials.

International Canoe Federation Vice President Cecilia Farias will speak at the Asian Canoe Confederation seminar that will run from September 16 to 19.

A new Canoe Sprint course has been created in Turkestan in Kazakhstan where the seminar will take place.

It will run alongside the Open Cup of Kazakhstan which will be the first Paracanoe competition to be staged at the new venue.

Officials participating in the seminar will receive expert advice from Dr Farias who has a wealth of experiencing in officiating at major international events in Canoe Sprint, Canoe Slalom and Canoe Marathon.

Dr Farias has been selected for six Olympic Games – two of them as jury – and many World Championships in those disciplines.

The ICF’s Fit for Future strategy will be outlined on the opening day of the seminar before officials will learn about their rules and responsibility at events over the next two days.

Officials will also get to familiarise themselves with the venue, stopping at the various positions to observe.

The seminar will end on September 19 with an examination and general evaluation of the level of judges.

“I’m excited to be speaking at this seminar in Kazakhstan,” said Dr Farias.

“This will be a fantastic opportunity to develop that will be able to judge at top-level competitions.

“It is important to see more women taking on officiating roles in the sport.

“Having the best judges at our events is crucial to the development of our sport.
