Ones to watch
Dane Jackson (USA): It’s hard to ignore the American freestyle star who continues to add to his legend with every edition of the World Championships. The son of Eric Jackson and younger brother of Emily Jackson, two past world champions and current competitors, the 31-year-old is part of a great kayaking family. Dane Jackson has nine senior world titles to his name, including five in kayak, one in squirt and three in canoe decked. In Plattling, Jackson will go for his 10th world crown.
Ottilie Robinson-Shaw (GBR): A four-time world champion, Robinson will be hungry for more success after coming back from a serious injury last year. She won three gold medals on home waters in Nottingham three years ago and she will attempt to do the same again as she competes in the women’s kayak, women’s squirt and women’s canoe decked. A shoulder injury at the 2023 World Championships threatened to derail her career but she returned with a bang in Plattling last year, winning golds at back-to-back World Cups there, and will be determined to continue that sparkling form.
Philip Josef (GER): The decibels are set to increase when Josef gets on the water in Plattling. The German paddler will be a big home favourite among the crowd as he looks to add to his medal tally. Josef has claimed three open canoe medals in his careers including gold in 2019. He will be contesting the men’s canoe in Plattling, while Tim Rees will be aiming to deliver glory for hosts Germany as he enters the senior kayak category after winning the men’s junior gold in both 2022 and 2023.
