PCKF Commemorates Pakistan Day with Canoeing Championships
Pakistan has been making great strides in their development of Canoeing. Recently the Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation (PCKF) along with the Hayat Durrani Water Sports Academy and the Balochistan Canoeing / Kayaking and Rowing Associations organized the 2012 All Balochistan Pakistan Day Canoe/Kayak and Rowing Championship to mark Pakistan Day.
More than 50 boys, girls, youth and seniors kayak paddlers and rowers participated in the competition. HDWSA took 1st place followed by Pakistan Customs Quetta who took 2nd place. Quetta City Canoe Club was 3rd, Chiltan Adventurers Canoe team 4th and Loralai Canoe Club took 5th place.
Great steps taken to promote sport in Pakistan
All facilities i.e. Canoe , Kayak and Rowing racing Boats, Paddles , life saving jackets, Motor Boats for Umpires , Judges and rescue were provided free of cost to the participants by HDWSA in order to promote water sports in the country.
Earlier Hayat Durrani Water Sports Academy HDWSA Hanna Lake Quetta had organized a one week canoeing and rowing training camp for all participants of the Championships; this camp was also held to commemorate Pakistan Day.
Talent pool of paddlers in Pakistan growing
Secretary General PCKF, Hayatullah Khan Durrani pride of Performance said on the eve of the prize distribution, “The performance level of our youth is increasing because we have a project for young canoeists and we have very talented canoe and kayak paddlers for our future. Pakistan Canoe and Kayak Federation provides training facilities through its grassroots programme, hence the junior Kayak paddlers of HDWSA Balochistan are the best in Pakistan.”
Durrani thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran Canoeing , Rowing and Sailing Federation for the donation of 12 Kayak and Canoe boats which he said will aid the development and promotion of Olympic Canoe / Kayak Sprint Racing Sports in Pakistan.
Future bright for girls in Canoeing
He said that the participation of girls was also highly commended and that the federation will make available its best facilities so that the girls can be coached properly. It was pointed out that the federation has many female members and they have taken a keen interest in kayaking sports.
Canoeing in Pakistan is evidently proving popular because the girls have a good level of kayaking skills and it is deemed to be a suitable and attractive sport for girls in Pakistan. He described the promotion and the development of canoeing and kayaking in Pakistan. He also took the opportunity to inform guests about the ICF’s Technical Chief’s assistance towards the development of canoeing and kayaking in Pakistan.
Minister of Sport and Culture, Provincial Minister and pledge their support
Chief guest Shah Nawaz Khan Marri, Provincial Minister of and Culture and guest of honour, Provincial Minister Ms. Rahila Hameed Durrani appreciated the role of the Organizing Committee for holding of the successful championship on the eve of Pakistan Day assured everyone of their full support for the promotion of Canoeing in Pakistan especially in Balochistan. They also thanked guests for their support and for hailed the cooperation of Csaba Szanto technical chief of International Canoe Federation for the development of canoeing and kayaking in Pakistan.
Mohammad Abubakar Durrani was awarded best kayak paddler of the championship by winning two gold medals. Other results are as follows:

K1 Men’s Open 200 Meter Race Mohammad Abubakar Durrani 1st, Position, Farhanullah Khan Kakar 2nd Position, Mohammad Asif Khan 3rd Position.
K1 Men’s Open 500 Meter Race – Shahjahan Tareen 1st Position, Mohammad Naseem 2nd Position, Noorullah Kakar 3rd Position.
